Rioja Alavesa/OSTATU ②
[OSTATU]
Ostatu
DOCa Rioja Praveli
[The Samaniego family's quality-focused winery continues to focus on terroir, respect tradition, and make great strides with a modern sensibility.]
Founded: 1960s Field painting: 36ha
With the Sierra de Cantapúlia mountain range towering behind it, Ostatu is located in Alavesa, in the Basque Country, in the Rioja region, and has different vineyards on the best possible surface, influenced by the mountains.
The family originally ran a statutory inn, which has now been renovated into a suitable location, and everything from brewing to sales is carried out in-house.
The grapes are grown in open cultivation, with 95% of the vineyards being on well-drained chalky marl soil. The quality of the grapes is the top priority, and the vineyards are also developed horizontally.
Their dedication to their craft is beautifully expressed in the unique character of Ostatu's wines.
